Chinese companies China Energy International Group and Sinopec potential partners of state for construction of oil refinery in Smederevo

Representatives of the Ministry of Mining and Energy discussed with a delegation of Chinese companies China Energy International Group and China Petroleum Corporation - Sinopec the possibilities of cooperation in the implementation of the project to build an oil refinery in Smederevo, the ministry announced.

A Framework Agreement was signed between the Government of Serbia and China Energy International Group for this project last year.

Representatives of the Ministry informed the members of the Chinese delegation about the existing refining capacities in Serbia, plans for the diversification of crude oil supply, the construction of the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline, as well as current issues related to the supply of crude oil to the domestic market, after the expiration of the license of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC) to Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS).

President of Sinopec Engineering Group, Zhang Xinming, presented the company’s portfolio in China and abroad, experience and expertise in oil, gas and hydrogen projects. He expressed his belief that the company, with its experience and technologies, together with its partners, could contribute to the development of the oil and gas sector in Serbia, the petrochemical industry, as well as the overall energy transition process.
