Ortahisar in Cappadocia on Forbes’ list of the 50 most beautiful villages in the world

Cappadocia, known as one of the most unusual natural wonders of the world, with its famous fairy chimneys and hot air balloon rides, has once again received international recognition.

At the heart of the village rises Ortahisar Castle - a “fairy chimney” disguised as a fortress.

Thought to have been carved out in the Hittite period, it contains caves, dovecotes and labyrinthine tunnels and is considered one of the first multi-story settlements in the world.
