Export ban threatens Kragujevac-based Zastava’s operations – Workers afraid about salary payments

The oldest military factory in the Balkans, Zastava oruzje from Kragujevac, will mark 172 years of operation on October 27 under the ban on arms exports, which was introduced by the state in the middle of this year.

Expecting state help

The ban also includes the export of hunting and sporting weapons to the United States of America (USA), which is why products are piling up in warehouses, and employees are afraid about salary payments.

The president of the factory union, Aleksandar Tadic, told FoNet that the factory had around 2,300 employees, whose average salary was slightly more than 100,000 dinars.

– The export ban is causing us big problems, because that job provided the salaries of the employees. The factory management has so far managed to ensure regular payments to all employees, and we hope that the state will also allow exports again as soon as possible, because it is not just our factory that is at risk – said Tadic.

Crisis in jubilee year

The anniversary of the Kragujevac arms factory will be marked with a ceremonial session and a performance by the Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defense Stanislav Binicki at the Stara Livnica Museum.

This year, Zastava oruzje marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Petar Protic, the first Serbian manager of the Gunsmithing Plant, and the 145th anniversary of the Kokinka rifle, named after its designer, Major Kosta Koka Milovanovic.

Multimedia presentations dedicated to these important dates and new current Zastava oruzje products will be shown at the Stara Livnica Museum.
