At a time when more and more people are writing and talking about environmental protection, the JAF company says that for them sustainability is not just a trend, but an essential part of their business philosophy, so they have been setting standards in the area of responsible use of wood and protection of natural resources for a long time. And not only that, in this company they are investing in the modernization of warehouses and machines that contribute to energy efficiency and reducing waste.
What sets JAF apart on the market is that they offer clients the opportunity to offer the entire solution in one place - from materials to technical support and logistics. This saves time for their business partners and increases the efficiency in project implementation. The company`s plans are directed towards further growth and modernization, and the main goal is to remain a leader that sets standards - both in terms of quality and professionalism, and in terms of sustainable and responsible business.
The general director of the company, Melanija Pavlović, in an interview for our portal, reveals what trends are shaping the market for floor coverings and wood materials, speaks about the importance of the new distribution center in Niš, but also about the challenges she faces as a woman at the head of a large company in a traditionally male-dominated industry, and about the ways how JAF encourages women`s empowerment within the company.

How do you see the current trends when it comes to floor coverings and parquets, and how is JAF responding to the growing market demands in this segment?
- The floor covering market today is characterized by three main trends – naturalness, sustainability and functional design. Customers increasingly strive for materials that are authentic, environmentally friendly and easy to maintain, while architects and investors seek flexibility and the possibility of personalization. Parquet is coming back into focus as a symbol of home warmth, but also as a sophisticated element of modern interiors.
At JAF, we have been building an offer in line with those expectations for years. Our assortment includes parquets and floor coverings from top European manufacturers, from classic solid floors to multi-layered parquets and decking systems for exteriors. We place special emphasis on products with FSC® and PEFC™ certificates that confirm the sustainable origin of the wood. Something that is definitely a trend in the world and will be used more and more is SPC vinyl flooring.
Our professional teams provide support to customers, architects and contractors through advice on the selection, installation and maintenance of flooring solutions. In this way, we combine the beauty of natural materials with modern technological standards and long-term value.
JAF is known for its wide range of wood materials and innovative solutions. What are the novelties in your offer, especially when we talk about materials such as compact panels, Corian and ALPI fineline veneers?
-JAF is synonymous with variety and quality in the segment of wood and decorative materials. Our philosophy is to offer the market everything that modern design and architecture demand - from natural wood to the most modern composite materials.
Today, compact panels are one of the most sought-after solutions, because they combine high resistance, stability and aesthetic versatility. They are ideal for areas with higher loads and hygiene requirements - such as hospitals, schools, kitchens and commercial facilities. Compact panels have found wide application in the exterior as well as ventilated facades. DuPont brand Corian® panels are a material that offers endless possibilities to architects and is used for countertops. JAF is the general distributor of the Italian ALPI brand. ALPI fineline veneers are a response to the growing need for innovative, ecologically stable and designerly recognizable surfaces.
What sets us apart is the ability to offer the entire solution in one place - from materials to technical support and logistics - which saves our partners time and increases efficiency in project implementation.

In which direction are your products developing when it comes to sustainability, ecological standards and the application of new technologies in production?
- Sustainability is not just a trend, but a fundamental part of our business philosophy. As a company with Austrian roots, JAF Group has been setting standards in the area of responsible wood use and protection of natural resources for decades.
All our products come from controlled and certified sources, which means that each tree has its own route and known origin - from the forest to the end user. This ensures that wood is used rationally and that afforestation is carried out in a planned manner.
We also invest in the modernization of warehouses and machines that contribute to energy efficiency and waste reduction. In production processes, as well as in transport and packaging, the focus is on reducing CO₂ emissions and optimizing supply chains.
At JAF, we believe that responsibility towards nature is an integral part of product quality - because sustainability and durability always go together.
By opening a distribution center and a modern showroom in Niš, you have become even closer to customers in the south of Serbia. What can customers and partners expect in this new space?
- Our new center in Niš represents an important strategic step in the development of JAF`s business in Serbia. With this, we completed our network and enabled more efficient distribution of materials to partners in the south of the country.
It is a modern logistics and sales center with a large storage capacity, modern equipment and a showroom that offers complete inspiration for architects, carpentry workshops and investors.
Customers can expect access to the widest range of board materials, parquet, veneers, decking systems and decorative surfaces, as well as expert advice from our team.
Our goal is for every visitor to the Niš Center to experience JAF not only as a supplier, but as a partner who understands the needs of the local market and provides concrete solutions.
A third of JAF`s employees are women, which is exceptional for a company in the wood industry. How does JAF promote balance and equal opportunity within its team?
- At JAF, we are proud of the fact that a third of our employees are women - at all levels of the organization, from logistics and sales to management positions. It is not just a number, but a conscious decision to build a culture where knowledge, expertise and dedication are valued more than any stereotypes.
We encourage equality of opportunity through open communication, clear criteria for promotion and continuous investment in professional development.
I believe that diverse teams are more resilient, more creative and more successful – because they bring a wider range of ideas and approaches to solving challenges. It is precisely this combination of expertise and different worldviews that makes JAF distinctive.

As a woman at the head of a large company, what challenges and opportunities do you see in leading a team in a predominantly technical and traditionally male-dominated industry?
- Leadership in a traditionally male industry certainly brings challenges, but also enormous opportunities for a change of perspective. The key to success lies in competence, consistency and the ability to inspire the team to grow with you.
From my experience, authority is not built through strength, but through knowledge and integrity. When people recognize that you are dedicated, fair and willing to support them, they follow you regardless of gender.
The industry is changing - more and more women are entering the technical and managerial spheres, which contributes to a better balance and greater innovation. It is important that each of us be an example of moving the boundaries with knowledge and results.
How does JAF support women`s empowerment within the company, and do you have initiatives that encourage greater involvement of women in this area?
- Within the company, we are actively working on the development of women through mentoring, training programs and internal dialogue on career development. Our approach is to recognize the potential of each person and enable them to develop it - either through specialization in a certain business segment, or through taking on leadership roles.
Externally, through various projects and public performances, we want to inspire other companies to follow a similar example - because when women have the opportunity, the entire organization becomes more stable, innovative and successful.
What are the future plans of the JAF company in Serbia - when it comes to the development of new products, investments and business expansion?
- Our plans are aimed at further growth and modernization. We are planning new investments in the development of the distribution network, additional process digitization and strengthening of the logistics infrastructure.
Digital tools, such as online ordering platforms and virtual showrooms, are becoming an important part of our business because they enable customers to access materials and technical information more easily and quickly. At the same time, we are working on expanding our own brands in all segments, as well as educating the market through presentations and cooperation with architects, designers and contractors.
Our goal is for JAF Serbia to remain a leader that sets standards - both in terms of quality and professionalism, as well as in terms of sustainable and responsible business operations.
