Idea to build Expo Center in Nis being revived – Mayor announces works after 2027

In the coming years in Nis, one of the capital projects will be the construction of a fairground, said Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic, as reported by Euronews Serbia. In this way, Pavlovic revived an idea that was more than five years old, when the construction of the Expo Center was planned at the Lozni kalem location, near Niska Banja.

– The City of Nis recently signed a contract with a design company that will carry out capital projects in the city. The first things that will be done is the reconstruction of the Medosevac and Vrezina bridges. The new building of the National Museum, the reconstruction of the National Theater and the gymnastics center can already be designed. After these projects, projects for a new fairground will also begin – he said.

He added that the fairground would be like a kind of Expo Center.

– After these projects and after obtaining permits for these things that we have already talked about, I think that the next capital project will be exactly what we really need as a city, and that is a space for a fair, some kind of expo center – he noted.

He added that the space for the fair would be put up for designing in 2026 or 2027.

– Later, when we receive the permit, we will be able to start the construction – said Mayor of Nis Dragoslav Pavlovic.

He noted that the city needed such a space that would be multifunctional and would have a hall for 1,000 or 1,500 people and a space for exhibitions.

Earlier plans for Expo Center in Nis

In 2020, the works that participated in the competition for the architectural solution for the multifunctional Expo Center in Nis were presented. The best, according to the expert jury, was the work of the Belgrade company Normotik.

– The construction of the Expo Center in Nis is planned at the Lozni kalem location near Niska Banja. The selection of the architectural solution is only the first phase towards the ultimate goal – the Office for Local and Economic Development and Projects of Nis (KLERP) told eKapija at the time.

The facility is planned to have an area of at least 13,500 m2, of which the fair space would occupy at least 8,100 m2.

In mid-2020, a tender for the development of project and technical documentation was also announced, however, this procedure was suspended.
