State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Predrag Rojevic emphasized that the Republic of Serbia, led by President Aleksandar Vucic, attached special importance to the improvement of agriculture, as an extremely important branch for the development of the Serbian economy, and all its sectors, including veterinary medicine.
– Through membership in organizations such as GF-TADs, WOAH and FAO and participation in the work of such conferences, we demonstrate the commitment of the Republic of Serbia to international cooperation. Connectivity and exchange of experience and technology help our country and all of us to jointly, in the best way, improve control and protect food safety and the health of our citizens and animals – said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Predrag Rojevic.
He emphasized that Serbia, through the PVS missions conducted in 2014 and 2016, had received valuable guidelines for improving the veterinary service, thanks to which surveillance, laboratory capacities and response to infectious animal diseases had been improved. Today’s conference, he added, is an opportunity for participants to jointly confirm their commitment to cooperation in this area and set priorities for the coming period, the Ministry of Agriculture announced. Over four days, participants will discuss key challenges and experiences in the fight against infectious animal diseases, and special attention will be paid to the exchange of knowledge, new technologies, as well as strengthening coordinated mechanisms for responding to transboundary animal diseases.
The participants expressed their belief that the results of the conference would be a strong incentive for all participating countries to continue investing in veterinary services, which would contribute to greater security and stability throughout the European region, the statement said.
