– This is historically the lowest level of problematic loans. We have citizens who regularly repay loans, do not want to owe the bank and know that inflation will not eat up these loans, because we maintain stability – Tabakovic told TV Pink.
She reminded that on October 15, a by-law would come into force according to which banks had to submit requests and data to the NBS on what they had done towards responsible debtors who repaid loans, and who had found themselves in a difficult situation due to job loss, reduced salaries in difficult conditions, and to help them to prevent these loans from becoming problematic.
– The bank must, not only at the request of the loan beneficiary, but also itself monitor what is happening with his financial situation, in order to be able to repay the loan and to offer loan repayment facilities – said Tabakovic.
She stated that the state did not want to facilitate the purchase of apartments that were investments and used for rent, but to help citizens who wanted to secure a roof over their heads, or to buy their first property, under the most favorable conditions.
She also reminded that previous measures had limited the growth of interest on unauthorized and authorized overdrafts on current accounts and cards.
Tabakovic also pointed out that six out of 17 banks in Serbia had lowered interest rates on loans above expectations, “realizing that it is better to have a larger number of loans with lower interest rates than to offer high interest rates.”
