The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Jorgovanka Tabakovic, stated that she expected inflation to slow significantly in September due to the reduction in margins and to move stably around the September level until the end of the year, while also announcing new benefits for citizens.

In an interview for the Politika newspaper, Tabakovic pointed out that the Regulation on Special Conditions for Carrying Out Trade for Certain Types of Goods, which limited margins in wholesale and retail trade, applied to around 35% of products that were included in the calculation of inflation, and to almost the entire category of food products. Speaking about the measures implemented, she pointed out that “in an effort to be as competitive as possible on the market, but also to support the state’s measures, some banks have lowered interest rates” below the set lower limit.

– A lot of effort has been put into these measures, but our work is not finished with their publication - we continue to cooperate with banks so that the measures become a reality and a real relief for citizens – said Tabakovic.

The Governor emphasized that all banks in Serbia had recognized the importance of these measures, which were in the interest of all market participants, and that they “have announced special offers of more favorable loans for employees and pensioners with regular monthly incomes of up to 100,000 dinars - and more than that in accordance with the bank’s business policy.”

– Our citizens can already submit applications for these loans, and banks have started approving them. Loan offers with reduced interest rates will be part of the official bank offers for at least a year, and citizens have enough time to think, consider the bank offers and their needs and make the best decision – said Tabakovic.
