The Government of Serbia has decided to form the task force for the prevention, suppression and eradication of the most dangerous infectious animal diseases - African swine fever, ovine rinderpest, bluetongue and sheep and goat pox.

The task force will be headed by Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamocic.

The main task of the task force will be to coordinate and direct the work of all relevant institutions and services dealing with the protection of animal health.

The task force will be responsible for implementing measures for the prevention, control and suppression of diseases, as well as for the operational management of crisis situations at the national level.

The formation of this body was due to the increasingly frequent cases of African swine fever in the region and the need to ensure a quick and efficient response in the event of the emergence of infectious diseases that can cause major economic losses to livestock farming and threaten market supply.

The government announced that the task force would work in full coordination with veterinary services, local governments, and international institutions to prevent the further spread of the infection and protect domestic livestock.
