Gas to finally be introduced in southern Serbia: Spatial Plan for Special-Purpose Area determined for main gas pipeline Orljane-Leskovac-Vranje-border with North Macedonia

The Government of Serbia has adopted a regulation on determining the Spatial Plan for the Special-Purpose Area with elements of detailed regulation for the main gas pipeline MG 14 GRC Orljane-Leskovac-Vranje-border with the Republic of North Macedonia, which will be 146 km long and include plots in the areas of Leskovac, Vranje, Vladicin Han, Bujanovac, Presevo, Vlasotince, Surdulica and Doljevac.

As specified, the reason for the preparation and adoption of this Spatial Plan for the Special-Purpose Area is “creating the conditions for the realization of national interests in the field of energy infrastructure development on the principles of sustainable development.”

– Given the new situation in the energy sector, there is a need to connect the gas pipeline systems of Serbia and North Macedonia. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to build the MG14 main gas pipeline from the “Orljane” gas distribution plant near Nis to the border with North Macedonia, and a branch of the RG-14-01 distribution pipeline will provide supply to the city of Leskovac. The MG14 main gas pipeline will be a two-way transport gas pipeline that, in addition to supplying natural gas to the Jablanica and Pcinja districts, will also enable the transport of natural gas between the two national systems – the adopted document states.
