The Turkish company Fortis Energy will start building a solar power plant in Sremska Mitrovica in the spring, on private land on the Macva side, on the road to Drenovac.

The construction permit for the solar power plant has already been obtained, while the permit for energy transmission is expected in the next three months, announced the Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica Branislav Nedimovic, after a meeting at the City Hall with representatives of the company.

It was agreed at the meeting that that investment in green and sustainable energy went beyond local limits and represented one of the largest projects in the field of energy not only for Sremska Mitrovica, but also for Serbia.

As reported by local media, Nedimovic stated that the solar park would be built on 300 hectares of private land in Macva and have 270 megawatts of installed capacity, as much as one fifth of the installed capacity of Djerdap.

– That’s why we can say that this will be one of the five largest projects of this kind in Europe – said Nedimovic.

Incidentally, this company announced in the middle of last year that it had purchased a 180 MW solar project with a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Sremska Mitrovica in Serbia.

The company stated that it was expected to be one of the largest solar power plants and energy storage systems in Southeast Europe.

Fortis plans to install a BESS with a capacity of 36 MWh.
