Serbia future rail cargo hub of China and Europe? – Potential investment by Chinese companies in development of logistics center in Serbia being considered

Chinese companies are considering potential investments in the development of a logistics center in Serbia, which would represent another concrete implementation of a project within the “Belt and Road” initiative, it was indicated after the meeting that the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic had with the delegation of the Chinese province of Hebei, headed by the vice governor of the province Jin Hui. As announced by the ministry, the results of the strategic partnership between Serbia and China, as well as possible investments, were discussed at the meeting.

Sofronijevic pointed out the importance of improving rail freight traffic on the China-Europe route via Serbia, as well as the possibility of Serbia becoming a key hub in this logistics channel, which, she said, will further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the Chinese province of Hebei and Serbia.

– Investments by Chinese companies, such as HBIS, whose headquarters are in Hebei province, represent a strong pillar of this joint development and projects within the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative – emphasized Sofronijevic.

Hebei Province, as one of the most economically powerful regions in China, is characterized by a high annual growth rate and large investments in the development of new technologies and industries, which represents an additional impetus for strengthening and long-term cooperation between Serbia and China, the ministry said in a statement.
