The Free Trade Agreement between Serbia and Egypt came into effect today, the Ministry of Trade announced. Its implementation allows almost 50% of agricultural and industrial products to be exempt from customs duties.

In the first phase, agricultural products, including frozen fruit and apples, will see the greatest liberalization.

Full customs duty exemption is expected gradually over the next ten years, when more than 90% of agricultural and industrial products will be in the duty-free regime.

The agreement also brings simplified administrative procedures, certification and a reduction in trade barriers. It also opens up space for new investments and joint investments by companies from Serbia and Egypt, especially for the purpose of entering third markets, the statement says.

Serbia is the first country in the Balkans to sign a free trade agreement with Egypt, and negotiations began in June 2022.
