More than 113,000 enterprises operated in Serbia last year, mostly micro companies

In 2024, 113,161 companies operated in Serbia, according to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. By size, the largest share is made up of micro companies - 96,706 of them (85.5%), followed by small companies, 12,814 (11.3%), medium-sized companies, 2,967 (2.6%) and large companies 674 (0.6%).


In total, 1,337,382 workers were employed in companies in 2024. Micro companies employ around 13% of the workforce, small companies 19.5%, medium companies 22.7%, while large systems employ the most - 44.6% of all employees.

The largest share in turnover is held by large companies (41.2%), followed by medium-sized companies (23.9%), small companies (20.3%) and micro companies (14.7%). Also, half of the gross added value (49.5%) is generated by large enterprises.

Observed by activities, the largest share is in trade (28.1%), followed by manufacturing and professional, scientific and technical activities (13.9% each), as well as construction (9.7%). When it comes to the number of employees, the largest share is in manufacturing (31%), while trade is the most important in terms of turnover (34.1%).
