Wizz Air discontinuing flights from Sarajevo and Belgrade to Abu Dhabi

The low-cost airline carrier Wizz Air has decided to discontinue the services from Sarajevo and Belgrade to Abu Dhabi. The last flight from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi is scheduled for July 19, and from Sarajevo, for August 31.

In addition to the capitals of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, Wizz Air has also canceled flights to Abu Dhabi from Sofia, Tirana, Varna, Katowice, Budapest, Vienna, Astana, Kutaisi and Samarkand, writes SEEbiz.

Wizz Air is the only transporter flying between the capital of the Emirates and Belgrade, as well as Sarajevo. Throughout the year, the airline company has been flying five times a week to Belgrade, whereas, throughout the season, it has flown to Sarajevo every day.

Wizz Air launched flights to Belgrade in May 2021 and to Sarajevo in October that same year. Both lines are serviced by Airbus A321neo planes with 239 seats.

– In the past few days, we have taken a number of steps to contact and notify the affected passengers, but more than two thirds of them did not reserve their tickets directly through the airline company (but through online tourist agencies). Therefore, the contact information of these passengers is not available to the company, because these online portals which sell tickets do not forward the contact information of the passengers to airline companies – Wizz Air announced.

As well as most of the network of Wizz Air in the past year and a half, their base in Abu Dhabi has been affected by engine inspections which have affected the fleet.

The affected Leap engines which are used in regions such as the Middle East are especially prone to problems.
