Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) has sent to the US Department of the Treasury a new request for the issuing of a special license that postpones the full implementation of the sanctions, NIS announced. The aim of this request is to enable the company to operate unobstructed after June 27 as well, that is, after the expiration of the deadline envisaged in the previous license, issued on April 25 this year.

On March 14, NIS submitted to the US Department of the Treasury a request for removal from the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list, which is a complex process. So far, the company has been issued special licenses by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury of three occasions, postponing the full implementation of the sanctions.

– Despite the complex circumstances under which the company is operating, NIS continues a regular supply of the local market with all kinds of oil products and remains dedicated to maintaining the social stability of the employees. The public will be notified on time about the potential new circumstances which might influence the operations of NIS – they announced.

Vucic: Talks with American officials about NIS this weekend

On Friday, the president of Serbia announced that the official Belgrade was looking at talks about NIS with the US administration the next day or the day after that.

Vucic said for TV Prva that he expected “difficult talks about the sanctions on NIS.”

NIS earlier announced that it had sent a new request to the US Department of the Treasury for the issuing of a special license that postponed the full implementation of the US sanctions, announced due to the Russian share in the ownership of NIS.

The aim of this request is to enable NIS to operate after June 27, when the deadline envisaged in the previous license, issued on April 25, expires.

On March 14, NIS submitted to the US Department of the Treasury a request for removal from the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list.

The company has been issued special licenses by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury of three occasions, postponing the full implementation of the sanctions.

NIS is sanctioned due to the so-called “secondary risk,” that is, the connection with the Russian Gazprom Neft, which is under sanctions from the West due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
