Bajatovic: Serbia will get the best gas price in Europe

Serbia is working on a new gas contract with Russia and will get the best price in Europe, Srbijagas director Dusan Bajatovic told Reuters.

Bajatovic also stated that Europe, as well as Serbia, will have no other option but to return to Russian gas in order to cover their energy needs at a reasonable price.

Bajatovic said that the new contract with Gazprom will come into force from September and will last for either three or ten years.

- The price issue is mostly resolved. It will be very good, the best price in Europe - said Bajatovic, but he did not want to reveal the details because the commercial talks are still ongoing.

He pointed out that the future of the gas market will be shaped by the Russian Federation and the USA as producers, and China as a large consumer, and that Europe will have to adapt to that reality.

- Do the math. You cannot solve the equation of gas supply to Europe at acceptable prices without Russian gas - said Bajatovic.

Bajatovic supported the idea of ​​American investors buying the Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea, which was severely damaged by explosions in 2022 and has not delivered gas since.

According to Reuters, Serbia is one of the last countries in Europe to buy Russian gas, having received about three billion cubic meters last year. It is currently pursuing membership in the European Union, which this week proposed a legally binding ban on imports of Russian gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) until the end of 2027.
