UniCredit Bank has announced that it is the first to issue mini-bonds in Serbia for the financing of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

– The first issuer of a mini-bond is the long-standing client Planet Bike, in an indexed amount of RSD 230 million and with a maturity date of five years – the announcement says.

Managing Director of Planet Bike Lazar Cvoro said that “the decision to enter the process of issuing mini-bonds is motivated by the new possibilities of securing funds for the financing of business operations and the completion of the current investments in a new bicycle factory.” He added that, for that company, it meant a more stable and longer-term source of finance and a reduction in administrative costs compared to traditional banking credits.

UniCredit says that the issuing of mini-bonds is an important step toward the diversification of the sources of finance and the strengthening of the local capital market. Mini-bonds are a debt instrument issued by the client, and UniCredit Bank is the agent of the issue and the investor.

Executive Board Member and Corporate Banking Director at UniCredit Bank Filip Stikic said that mini-bonds were a strategic move by which the bank looked to strengthen local companies and provide them with alternative and flexible options for collecting capital.
