Mesarovic with IMF mission: Priorities are increasing the number of employees and strengthening domestic industry

Serbia’s priorities are preserving the existing economic environment, preserving and increasing the number of jobs, strengthening domestic industry and raising its capacities, as well as further attracting foreign direct investment, stated Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic at a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, with whom she discussed current economic developments, the results achieved by Serbia and the priorities of economic policy in the coming period.

– Thanks to the responsible economic policy of the state, Serbia is on the right path to further economic consolidation, strengthening and development of the economy. In the coming period, it will be one of the fastest growing economies in Europe, despite challenges both domestically and globally – she pointed out, as announced by the ministry.

Mesarovic pointed out the importance of foreign direct investment, which had reached five billion euros in 2024, stating that foreign companies had recognized Serbia as a favorable country for investing their capital. She added that special attention was paid to the small and medium-sized enterprise sector and that a high percentage of grants awarded by the Ministry of Economy were aimed at further stimulating work, production and employment.

In the previous year, according to her, 1,200 legal entities and entrepreneurs received subsidies, totaling 5.2 billion dinars.
