Mali: Serbia interested in concession of two airports in Montenegro

Serbia is interested in the concession of two international passenger airports, in Podgorica and Tivat, for which the attempts of the state of Montenegro have been going on for several years now, stated the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali. He said that, although president Aleksandar Vucic and he had clearly stated Serbia’s internation regarding that matter to the authorities in Montenegro on several occasions, they had not seen good will for having Serbia included in the process.

– Also, on that occasion, we emphasized that we were ready to invest up to twice as much as was envisaged in the concession agreement proposal. Serbia would be able to contribute to a further rapid development of Montenegrin airports – emphasized Mali, as announced by the competent ministry.

Serbia, as he said, has great experience now, when, with the help of the concessionaire for the Belgrade Airport, it has managed to raise the importance, reputation, professionalism, the scope of the handling and, overall, the quality of the operations of this Serbian airport.

– It’s an airport that can handle up to 15 million passengers a year, which is the goal we will achieve by the end of the concession period. The airports in Tivat and Podgorica also need such modernization. Serbia now has the know-how, financial strength and possibilities for it. It is not an easy job, but it is necessary and Montenegro certainly sorely needs it, as it is handling more and more passengers every year. I believe that including Serbia in this job would be of mutual benefit – said Mali.
