Ministry: Serbia has great potential for use of geothermal energy

Serbia has considerable geothermal potential, which needs to be used for progress in the process of the energy transition, stated the assistant minister of mining and energy, Ivan Jankovic.

He said that the Ministry of Mining and Energy, within the project of the energy repair of the central authorities’ buildings, had supported geological explorations of hydro-geothermal and petro-geothermal resources in two buildings of central authorities in Belgrade, the Palace of Serbia and SIV III.

– The results of the explorations in the Palace of Serbia confirm the existence of considerable geothermal potential which can secure stable, ecologically acceptable and energy efficient heating and cooling. Also, by using a geothermal heat pump in the SIV III building, at least 85% of the total heating needs can be met, which are significant steps toward the decarbonization of these facilities and the strengthening of the capacity for the use of domestic renewable energy sources – said Jankovic.
