The first concrete step in that direction was made in Batajnica, where the Government of Serbia adopted the decision on determining a public interest for the expropriation of real estate. The aim is to build facilities for the production of heating energy from geothermal sources, the construction of accompanying connections and the forming of a single construction parcel for the new Batajnica heating plant.
The beneficiary of the expropriation will be the City of Belgrade, for the needs of the PUE Belgrade Heating Plants.
The project in Batajnica, as said in the decision, is harmonized with the planning documents of the city, including the Detailed Regulation Plan for the settlement and the General Regulation Plan of the building area of Belgrade.
The previously published study of the Faculty of Mining and Geology analyzed, in detail, the Batajnica, Borca and the Danube heating plants and, in all those areas, a potential of geothermal waters from five megawatts to 20 megawatts (per geothermal system) was determined.
The conclusion of the Scientific Study says that the exploitation of geothermal energy in one of the three most promising locations – the Batajnica heating plant, would enable the substitution of 90% of the annual quantity of the existing fossil energy source that this heating plant uses. As announced on the website of this company, that is an incredible potential for the dominant use of the renewable energy source for the heating of the consumers that are supplied from the heating plant.
– The aim of the Belgrade Heating Plants is for funds to be invested during this year in the next exploration phase and the construction of an exploratory borehole which should confirm the projected parameters of the geothermal capacities at the Batajnica heating plant – Vanja Vukic, the director of the Belgrade Heating Plants, announced earlier.
