Nearly all works on construction of new oil and product tanks in Smederevo completed

The assistant to the minister for oil and gas, Sasa Kokovic, estimated that the new tanks for the storage of oil and oil products would contribute to the strengthening of the state’s energy stability, the Ministry of Mining and Energy announced. Kokovic and the director of the Energy Reserves Administration, Dragisa Lazarevic, talked with representatives of Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS), the planners and the contractors about the progress of the construction of the new tanks for the storage of oil and oil products in Smederevo.

– So far, 99% of the works on the construction of six new tanks in Smederevo have been completed, and functional tests and the testing of the equipment are in progress. With this project, the total capacities of the mandatory and goods reserves will be increased by 120,000 cubic meters. This investment is a step toward a greater independence and resilience of the energy system, especially in the conditions of a global instability and unpredictability – said Kokovic.

At the meeting, there was talk about the project-technical activities and obtaining approval from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in order to carry out the technical acceptance and secure the usage permit and the beginning of the filling of the storage facility.
