Telekom Srbija abandons issuing electronic money

Telekom Srbija has been revoked its permit for the issuing of electronic money, as can be seen from the decision adopted by the National Bank of Serbia.

The decision was adopted on April 10 and published today in the Official Gazette.

To clarify, Telekom Srbija itself notified the NBS through a memo dated March 26, 2025, that it intended to stop the operations of the institution of electronic money within Telekom Srbija, that is, that it planned to stop issuing electronic money and providing payment services for which a permit had been issued to it.

The permit for the issuing of electronic money was issued to Telekom in March 2019.

The NBS website stated that the users can get electronic money upon the payment of money to the institution of electronic money. That payment is done through a payment card, transfer from the account or direct payment.

According to the NBS statistical data, in 2024, there were 833,858 transactions from e-money accounts, whose value amounted to around RSD 1.56 billion. Compared to other payment services (online payments, mobile payments, current accounts, payment cards etc.), electronic money has by far the lowest number of users.
