Test samples of the electric "Citroen C3" have rolled off the production lines at the Kragujevac car factory and are being tested on the streets of the city and surrounding towns, RTS learns. Production of the new model should soon begin in Kragujevac, where the electric "Fiat Grand Panda" is already being produced.

Citroen was produced in the territory of the former Yugoslavia in the 1970s. Five and a half decades later, the French brand arrives in Serbia and Kragujevac, where the electric "Citroen C3" will be produced.

It is a city car four meters long, with a trunk of 310 liters. It can travel about 320 kilometers on a single charge. It will cost around 26,500 euros, but buyers in Serbia will be able to count on state aid in the amount of 5,000 euros.

Zoran Buric, marketing director at Avtonova KAB - the exclusive importer of Citroen vehicles - points out that the exact date of production is not yet known, but he expects it to be very soon.

– Some prototypes have already been made. We know that it can start the moment the factory management makes a decision in cooperation with the people from Stellantis, so the electric model will appear on our streets very soon – says Buric.

For now, the car factory in Kragujevac, in addition to the electric "Panda", also produces body parts for the "C3" and sends them to the Stellantis factory in Slovakia, where the model is serially produced. Just such a scenario for the "Serbian Detroit" is also eagerly awaited in the factory union.

The president of the independent trade union FCA Serbia, Ivan Ristic, claims that this news impresses them, because it proves, as he points out, that they are capable of producing more models, in addition to the basic "Fiat Grande Panda".

The influence of "Citroen" on Serbia's GDP

"We are accelerating the recruitment of new workers with the aim of creating a second shift. This means that there will be an increasing number of cars coming off the production lines in our company," emphasizes Ristic.

Economist Petar Veselinovic believes that the increasing production of cars, including another "electric" model, will be important to Serbia in multiple ways.

– We will achieve an increase in the gross domestic product in a certain percentage by the very production and sale of this new car. Certainly, this will significantly change the structure of the economy of Serbia, Kragujevac, Sumadija and Pomoravlje administrative districts, and it will qualitatively and quantitatively contribute to the increase of export performance – indicates Veselinovic.

Buric notes that the production will contribute to the development of vehicle electrification in the country.

– Our drivers will accept electric and hybrid versions. In this way, in addition to preserving the environment, we will drive more quietly and more beautifully – Buric believes.
