New acquisition in Serbian pharma – Italians buy two Belgrade-based distributors for EUR 7 million in total

Italian medical equipment manufacturer Svas Biosana said it has completed the acquisitions of Serbian medical device distributors Hermes Pharma and Megapharm.

Svas Biosana acquired Hermes Pharma through its wholly-owned subsidiary Mark Medical for a consideration of 3.5 million euro (USD 3.8 million) plus a variable earn-out of about 250,000 euro, the company said in a press release earlier this month, reports SeeNews.

The Italian firm bought Megapharm through its unit Levante HC Holding for a consideration of 3 million euro plus a variable earn-out of approximately 250,000 euro.

Belgrade-based Hermes Pharma was founded in 2017. Prior to being acquired by Svas Biosana, it was fully-owned by local entrepreneur Predrag Andric, according to data from Serbia’s business registers agency.

In 2024, it posted an operating revenue of 665 million dinars and a net profit of 92 million dinars, its annual financial statement showed.

Founded in 2021 in Belgrade, Megapharm was wholly-owned by local entrepreneur Djordje Baic, according to data from the business registers agency.

In 2024, it reported an operating revenue of 344 million dinars and a net profit of 51 million dinars, according to its annual financial report.

Svas Biosana, established in 1972, has 350 employees and three production facilities in Italy. It is directly present in five countries and has 16,000 products, it says on its website.

In 2021, Svas Biosana was listed on Euronext Growth Milan, a Borsa Italiana-manged market dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises which are looking for capital to fund growth.

Let us remind that, recently, another, much bigger acquisition related to the Serbian pharma sector, drew attention globally.

Pharma-major Sanofi has acquired Serbian-founded biopharmaceutical company Dren Bio for up to USD 1.9 billion.

Dren Bio is headquartered in San Francisco and it was founded by Serbian scientists. The agreement sees Sanofi acquire Dren Bio’s autoimmune disease treatment, DR-0201, a targeted bispecific myeloid cell activator. The drug, which has shown strong B-cell depletion in early clinical studies, is being investigated for a variety of autoimmune diseases and malignancies.
