Uniform connection for mobile phones and other electronic devices mandatory in Serbia

From December 28, in line with the Regulation on Radio Equipment, certain categories or classes of radio equipment have to be equipped with a USB Type-C connector in order to be delivered to the market of Serbia, announced the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications.

These are categories or classes of radio equipment such as mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headphones with a microphone, handheld video-game consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mouses, portable navigation systems and earbuds.

Said categories or classes of radio equipment which were ordered by December 28 and which are not equipped with the harmonized charging solution can be delivered to the market of Serbia after said date.

Also, said categories and classes of radio equipment previously delivered to the market of the Republic of Serbia are not required to be withdrawn from the market.

The implementation of the Regulation, the ministry says, will enable the use of the uniform charger for said categories or classes of radio equipment and lead to a reduction in electronic waste.

– In addition to that, it will enable simpler access to emergency services to all users and the use of radio equipment by persons with disabilities through the use of amplifiers for people with damaged hearing, radios with large buttons or voice-command, screens with large fonts, adaptive devices for radio control, as well as speech-synthesis devices – the announcement says.
