Faster from Cukarica to Palilula? – Belgrade preparing project of Bypass Route “Center”, new main ring road around city planned to be completed in one year

It should take half as much time to get from Cukarica to Palilula soon. Those in charge of these matters in the City are already working on the project of a bypass route called “Centar”, which should help avoid central city routes and the big traffic jams when traveling from one end of the city to another.

The new solution, according to the Novosti daily, should soon be presented to the public, and the plan is for the new main ring road around the city to be completed in a year.

Although it’s only its working title, the name “Centar” indicates that the traffic route goes around the central city zone itself, in which there are big jams every day, and connects Ada Ciganlija with the end of Visnjicka Streeet.

The idea is for some of the most important routes in the capital city, which are also the busiest ones, to be bypassed in a simple way, without traffic lights and by comfortable traffic routes. This primarily pertains to the central city zone, a large number of intersections, traffic lights, pedestrians and everything that makes normal functioning impossible and creates big traffic jams.

The new “traffic backbone”, which will first go along the Sava and then along the Danube coast, will be the simplest connection to any part of the city which stretches along Cukarica, Savski Venac, Stari Grad and Palilula, considering that those are the municipalities which lean on the Bypass Route “Centar”.

With its completion, the citizens will benefit the most, as they will travel from one end of Belgrade to the other much faster, without having to go through the city center. Because, we all know what kinds of gridlocks happen in peak hours in the morning and afternoon near the Belgrade Fair, in Kneza Milosa Street, Despota Stefana Blvd…

Unburdening

The construction of the main ring road around the city center will unburden these traffic routes in the central zone and reduce the number of vehicles in the core city center. It will enable a more efficient use of public space for pedestrians and cyclists, which is also envisaged by the project of the bypass route “Centar”.
