Government enables signing of strategic partnership with EU in fields of rare resources, batteries and eVehicles

At today’s session of the Government of Serbia, the Decision on determining the basis for the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Republic of Serbia and the European Union on a strategic partnership in the fields of sustainable resources, battery and electric vehicle value chains, was signed, envisaging five directions: on cooperation on the industrial level, on cooperation in the field of research and innovations, on the implementation of high environmental, social and management standards and practices, on the mobilization of financial and investment instruments in the line with the EU standards and the development of human resources necessary for the realization of all the segments of this partnership.

The memorandum of understanding aims to develop a mutually beneficial strategic partnership in the field of sustainable rare resources, battery and electric vehicle value chains, at the same time strengthening the integration of Serbia into the single EU market and the further strengthening of its getting closer to the EU in economic, social and ecological terms, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

The partnership will contribute to the decarbonization of the economy in line with the EU Green Deal and the Western Balkans Green Agenda, to the end of cleaner transport and energy sectors, the reduction of CO2 emissions and achieving a green economy and the creation of high-quality jobs.

The partnership is based on the considerable potential of the resources of the Republic of Serbia and its geographic position relative to the EU and will result in the economic growth of the Republic of Serbia and contribute to the improvement of the position for joining the EU.

The partnership will strengthen and expand the cooperation in the fields of climate change, sustainable energy, sustainable materials and new technologies, in a way which will preserve the competitiveness of their economies and minimize the environmental impact.

The specially, sustainably produced batteries, as well as the creation of the entire supply chain for electric vehicles, will be crucial to the decarbonization of the transport and energy sector and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
