In an interview for the Politika daily, he said that there were intensive efforts with the Ministry of Mining and Energy to change the methodology which would be used to form the price of electrical energy for commercial purchasers, that is, companies, in order for it to follow the prices in the market, from May 1. The head of EPS points out that the new methodology for the forming of the prices for commercial purchasers will provide much flexibility, because drastic differences compared to the market will be avoided, in times of both low and high prices.
When asked what else the new methodology will bring to the economy, Zivkovic said that, considering the trends in the market at that moment, the economy could expect an adjustment of the price of electrical energy, but also the price stability that would be achieved through that new methodology.
– The new methodology will create the space to follow the trends in the market, in both directions, when the prices drop, but also when they jump. Both EPS and the purchasers will be much more secure. To clarify, it has happened that the prices in the market jump to over EUR 250 per megawatt-hour, and companies paid a maximum of around EUR 100 then. At the same time, the economy will be able to plan its costs and direct its potential funds in investments, innovations and upgrade of the business operations, instead of energy – said Zivkovic.
What is the current price in the market?
According to Zivkovic, after 2022, there is a different instability in the market, which has led to a drop in the prices and big fluctuations on a weekly, and even a daily level.
– Certainly, it’s not a support to the development of the market, and according to current projections, the price of a megawatt-hour in the market varies between night periods, sometimes slightly below EUR 70 per megawatt-hour, but also evening periods, when it reaches up to EUR 110 per megawatt-hour in the exchange markets. That’s EUR 160 to 200 less compared to the achieved spot prices in Serbia in 2022 – said the acting director of EPS.
