Price of Electricity for Citizens to Remain Same This Year – EPS Not to Be Sold Either

No plan of the Government of Serbia entails the privatization of EPS, nor will that take place, which means that EPS will surely remain a state company, stated the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, estimating that EPS had achieved historic financial results with the company’s 2023 profit exceeding RSD 100 billion.

– Historic financial results have been achieved in the past period, but reforms have to be faster, due to which a restructuring plan is being prepared for one of the most important companies when it comes to our country’s energy security – the minister said for TV Pink, as announced by the Government of Serbia.

Djedovic Handanovic said that the price of electrical energy for the citizens would not increase in 2024, and that, in cooperation with EPS and Srbijagas, a new methodology of calculating the price for commercial consumers was being prepared, which would be lowered later during the year if the market trend at that moment continued.

– During the energy crisis, the state acted responsibly and took on the risks of the enormous market price growth. We will continue acting responsibly. Last year, there were price adjustments, but for the second year in a row, we are providing discounts for households for a rational consumption of electrical energy, which go up to 40%. Over 1.5 million households realize the discounts per month, which shows that, in this heating seasons as well, they have continued acting responsibly – she noted.
