From April, an electric robot AgAR will be available in the field of agriculture. It will perform all the more difficult tasks on smaller farms which require a lot of workforce, as the commercial version of the robot is in the final phase. These robots are developed using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-precision sensors and satellite positioning and navigation.

Nikola Velcev of Coming Computer Engineering says that AgAR is a fully electric universal agricultural robot which will use extensions for precision agriculture (the pruning of vineyards, laser destruction of the weeds…) and traditional agricultural extensions which are already used on tractors to enable for small and medium agricultural properties the robotization of the activities they perform.

According to Velcev, the realization of the AgAR project – Universal Agriculture Autonomous Robot was started by Coming Computer Engineering in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nis in February 2022 and two prototypes have been developed so far. AgAR is characterized by great autonomy – the installation of a high-capacity battery enables 8 to 12 hours of autonomous work, depending on the configuration and the incline of the terrain. Also, the battery-swap technology is implemented, so it takes five minutes to replace the battery. This means that 24-hour autonomous work can be achieved with three packs of batteries.

AgAR is also characterized by a changing clearance, that is, the change of the height of the platform relative to the ground. AgAR is capable of changing the clearance from 220 to 810 mm in a short amount of time, thereby adapting to various farming cultures. The change of clearance increases the stability of the robot and prevents tipping over while transporting the load and moving on uneven terrains, as well as traversing and performing the activities at inclines of over 40 degrees. The automatic lifting and lowering of the entire platform maintain the optimal working position. As for the safety, AgAR is equipped with a radar, ultrasound sensors, a lidar and a stereo camera.
