The Serbian parliament adopted Monday the amendments to the Law on Local Self-government Funding, put forth by Mladjan Dinkic's United Regions of
Serbia.
The amendments prescribe, among the rest, that the local self-governments get 80 instead of the current 40 percent of the income tax revenues.
Belgrade is going to be the only self-government that will not receive any funds from the state budget. Instead, that money will go to all the other self-governments, with the poorest getting the biggest share.
Mladjan Dinkic, leader of the United Regions of Serbia, says that all citizens will benefit from the adoption of these amendments to the Law on Local Self-government Funding.
- This will benefit all cities and municipalities, all cities will have a bigger budget starting from as early as October 12. This is not a law that will be put in effect in 1,000 years. Budgets will be especially big when the full transfer is applied - said Dinkic.
Out of 127 MPs, 108 voted in favor of the amendments.
Dinkic also announces a new initiative - for the adoption of the Law on Public Property, and stresses that that party will continue to fight to win the citizens the right to elect their mayor and president of the municipality by themselves.
