For years in Belgrade the modernization of the public transport information system for passengers has been announced, including the modernization of the public transport stops. Not so long ago, just a few years ago, digital panels which would give much more precise information to the passengers than the ones they were used to, and even solar panels and phone chargers at stops, were announced. Several city secretaries in charge of public transport have been dismissed since then, but the announcements have not been realized. The leaving mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, now assures the public that there will finally be changes in that regard.

Talking about digital information panels at stops, Sapic pointed out that, in the first wave, by the end of November, a thousand of them would be set up.

– In the next year or two, our aim is to reach the number of 3,000 panels. For the time being, the panels will be set up at the busiest stops and I am convinced that the citizens would be more informed when it comes to public transport – the panels will feature information about the lines which pass through those stops, how much time it takes for which vehicle to come and how many stops away it is. Our app also has the possibility of reporting, by which the citizens can notify those in charge about the potential flaws on the vehicles – Sapic reminded.

The leaving mayor also announced that, about ten days later, the public procurement procedure would be opened for 300 new buses and 20-25 trams. Let us remind that, ahead of the announcements of the purchase of new vehicles for the needs of the Belgrade public transport system, GSP Beograd, the city public enterprise with the biggest losses, has long-term financial debts of RSD 38 billion.
