Prokupac gets back to life - Toplicki Vinogradi to build 6,000-square-meter wine cellar

The private company Toplicki Vinogradi (Toplica Vineyards), from Gojinovac near Prokuplje, has started the construction of one of the largest wine cellars in that part of Serbia, which will be spanning 6,000 square meters, said Dragan Kovacevic, the manager of that company.
He stressed that the wine cellar would be producing top-quality wines, mainly intended for export to the European market.
- We have planted vine on about 100 ha, which is not enough to satisfy the new capacities and needs of foreign buyers, so that we will also be buying grapes from other manufacturers with which we want to establish a long-term cooperation - said Kovacevic.
According to his words, the wine cellar should be completed by August.
The area of Prokupac used to be famous for vineyards, primarily for the grape sort Prokupac, which has completely disappeared over the last few decades.
Now, except for several family vineyards on the territory of the municipality of Prokuplje, there is no organized growing of vine, and the company Toplicki Vinogradi is trying to attract as many farmers as possible to join the production of grapes and wines.
