Masterpiece of engineering in Serbia - Works on central 210-meter span of bridge near Beska to be finished in few days

Austria's Alpine announced today that the central 210-meter span of the bridge across the Danube near Beska, one of the longest of the kind in the world, would be completed within next few days.
Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Milutin Mrkonjic, who visited the building site near Beska yesterday, told Tanjug that the works on the construction of the bridge near Beska were being carried out at excellent pace and congratulated to contractors.
Slobodan Mitrovic, a representative of Alpine and the deputy director of the bridge construction project, told Tanjug that the construction of the bridge, in accordance with the world's latest standards, was close to end.
He said that the new bridge, 2,205 meters long, would be the same as the existing bridge built in the 1970s when it was "the longest bridge in Europe and the world's record holder for the longest concrete pre-impregnated beams".
Pointing out that best materials that can currently be found in the market had been built in the bridge, as well as best pre-impregnation cables, bearings and dilatation joints, he added that the asphalt on the bridge would also be of the highest quality.
Mr. Mitrovic added that the best hydro-insulation system and concrete up to 30% stronger than envisaged by the project had been built in the bridge.
He specified that 65,000 cubic meters of concrete, 40 kilometers of pre-impregnation cables and few thousand tonnes of armature had been built in the bridge to date.
- The new bridge across the Danube will be a masterpiece of engineering in Serbia - Mr. Mitrovic stressed.
