German Company Wabio Starts Building First Bio Power Plant in Nova Crnja – Green Natural Gas for Export Also to Be Produced

The German company Wabio has started building the first bio power plant in Nova Crnja, where green energy will be produced from waste biomass such as manure and harvest residue.

The biogas facility with a power of 2.4 MW will be built at the very entrance to Nova Crnja from the direction of Romania, and the plan of the German company Wabio is for the fields to become a source of energy and for the waste biomass to be used for the production of biogas.

– We do not only intend to produce biogas, but we will also extract CO2 from that biogas and it will be additionally filtered and liquefied and we will offer it as such to the market. We will liquefy the remaining clean, green methane into natural gas and export it to EU states – explains Dusko Boskovic, the director of Wabio Serbia.

According to the investor’s announcement, this bioenergy production system can secure 50 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which would be enough for the supply of 15,000 households or the supply of 7,500 cars with fuel for a period of one year.

– Looking into the future, Serbia will have to change the way it produces and consumes energy and move away from fossil fuels, such as coal, and get closer to renewable energy sources. It will help not only with the preservation of the environment, but also with the creation of energy independence in Serbia – says Anke Konrad, the ambassador of Germany in Serbia.

The construction of a biogas facility is a big step for the municipality of Nova Crnja, and agriculturists will benefit the most.

– The harvest residue that they would waste in a way, they will now be able to bring to this factory and make a profit – points out Vladimir Brakus, the president of the Municipality of Nova Crnja.

The value of the investment in Nova Crnja reaches EUR 20 million, and in addition to this facility, the German company is planning similar investments in other parts of the country as well.
