Djedovic said for Euronews Serbia that the reform of the energy sector had been postponed for a long time and that it was much needed, including the reform of public enterprises.
She pointed out that the issue of the prices of electricity and gas would need to be dealt with “sooner, rather than later”, because energy companies in Europe had increased the prices of electricity and gas, three, four, five times, and even more in places.
– It’s inevitable. Yes, countries are making big investments in the energy sector. So is Serbia. But we have raised the prices of electricity and gas minimally. We have to talk about topics that are difficult for all of us – she said and added that it concerned us all and that we needed to be sustainable.
When asked whether lithium is an opportunity for Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic said that Serbia was lucky to have reserves on an important mineral which is necessary for renewable sources, that the whole world focused on.
– I believe that Serbia should consider how it can use that potential. It is up to me to look into it, to consider it, to see what has been done, what hasn’t and why not. But all countries which have a natural resource and don’t use it are at a loss – she said.
She says that there is no way to use any natural resource so that it is harmless to the environment, but adds that the question is which measures are taken to reduce the risks.
– If we want to develop and work toward having better living conditions for the citizens, the economy, better salaries, we should use the potentials, but with all the factors that can minimize the risks and make them more acceptable, if possible – Djedovic said.
She announced the completion of big projects such as Block B3 in Kostolac of 350 megawatts, as well as working on a gas interconnection between Serbia and Bulgaria and confirmed that the expectations and the plans were for 12 billion to be invested in the energy sector.
