What Beginners in Online Food Sale Need to Know

The first requirement that an entrepreneur or a business entity that markets food needs to meet is to be registered at the Central Register which lists all the subjects and their facilities in which the production and sale of food and animal food take place, and which is run by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, as announced in the Guidebook for Beginners in Online Food Sale.

– Entrepreneurs, business entities and natural persons which produce and sell food must establish adequate conditions for the production, storage, transport and delivery of food, in order to make sure that the delivered food is safe for the buyer. According to Article 13 of the Law on Food Safety, the entity responsible for food safety is the one which produces it and/or sells it – says the guidebook published by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Also, the food that is marketed needs to be adequately tagged, and when it comes to marketing and tagging food, the producers need to take care not to mislead the consumer as to the kind, the origin and the properties of the food.

– In transport, the food must not be exposed to pollution, and it also must be ensured for the temperature of the food that is easily spoiled to be kept within the desirable range – the guidebook says.

Nutrition declarations (about the kind and the quantity of the ingredients: proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and other ingredients) and health declarations (about the health effects on the organism) displayed in food declarations or in advertising, including ads on web pages and social networks, must be in line with the regulations.

– Before putting food with a health declaration on the market, you must address the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, which will estimate whether a health declaration can be included and in which form – it is said.
