At the end of December 2020, the public debt of Serbia amounted to EUR 26.66 billion, or 56.8% of the GDP, the Ministry of Finance announced.

The December share of the public debt in the GDP remained unchanged compared to the previous month and, the ministry claims, is much lower than projected by certain independent state organs, which claimed that, in 2020, the year of the pandemic, it would exceed 60% of the GDP.

At the end of December 2019, the public debt amounted to EUR 23.94 billion, making up 52% of the GDP, which means that, last year, which was marked by the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, it increased by EUR 2.72 billion, or 4.8 percentage points.
