About 200 years ago, Zemun had a famous European port that was used by the ships from Vienna and other Danubian cities. Today, unfortunately, the port of this Belgrade's borough can not be used by the vessels that are more than 30 meters long. However, it is more and more likely that the long tradition of river hospitality will be renewed because the research works and the project-technical documentation for the construction of a pier for passenger ships have been finished recently.

According to the project of Novi Sad's Hidroinvest DTD, the future 80-meter pier is conceived as a vertical quay for passenger ships up to 120 meters long. The estimated value of the pier is about RSD 80m, while RSD 185m should be provided for the construction of a new quay 475 meters long.

The pier will be situated up the stream from current Stara Kapetanija (the Old Port Authority Building), that is, half the way between the quay and restaurant Venecija. The pier will be a part of the new quay, that is, the future quay stone wall with a lower walk for pedestrians, six meters wide, and an upper plateau between 10 and 25 meters wide.

Construction of the pier and the quay requires removal of waste from the riverbed, alongside the bank, which has been deposited for decades.

The entire construction, as well as transportation of materials, will be done "from the water", that is, by the river, because the very location of the future pier is in the city core. It is almost impossible to transport the materials by road because of narrow streets and high traffic frequency.

The orderer or the investor of the project-technical documentation is the City borough of Zemun.

Hidroinvest DTD from Novi Sad is also the author of the projects for quays in Apatin, Smederevo, Novi Sad, etc., as well as the projects for yacht marinas in Apatin, Bački Petrovac, Bela Crkva, Senta and Belgrade.

The authors of the pier in Zemun are Goran Trifunov, Nadežda Pankov, Boško Simoljević, Branko Martin, Lazar Grgar, Mirko Beuković, Slobodan Senić and CEO Vojkan R. Vuletić.

The Zemun Nautical Center has formed the following five nautical clubs: NC Radecki, NC Zemun, SRD Dunav, marina Nautek and marina 4.juli.
