Internet nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Editor-in-chief of the Italian edition of Wired magazine, Riccardo Luna, nominated the net for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010. He explained that Internet is nominated because of its contribution to dialogue and reaching of consensus in communication.
- The internet can be considered the first weapon of mass construction, which we can deploy to destroy hate and conflict and to propagate peace and democracy - said Riccardo Luna in the explanation of the nomination.
His initiative received worldwide support, and one of the early backers is 2003 Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, a human rights activist from Iran.
Wired Italy will promote the initiative in each issue through September 2010. However, it's not clear who would pick up the prize on behalf of the Web - perhaps one its creators, Vinton Cerf, also called "the father of Internet".
In spite of big support to Internet's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, most people are of the opinion that the chances for the Web to win the award are small after last year's, a bit controversial decision that the Nobel Peace Prize be granted to US President Barack Obama, which is the reason why it is expected that the decision on this year's award will be more "conservative".
