Chinese are building a tunnel in Vojvodina – shorter link with Novi Sad and several Municipalities from Western Serbia and Adriatic highway

During the meeting of President Tadic with the hosts from Beijing, there has been discussed participation of Chinese contractors in construction of a tunnel through Fruska gora. It is a matter of a project, which has been reopened after a long break, but nothing was done regarding its realization.

In the area plan for Fruska gora, which was made 5 years ago, there has been in marked a construction of a tunnel which would be entering from Paragovo, and exiting near Irig.

There are two possible versions for realization of this capital investment. According the first possibility, Fruska gora tunnel would be 1.223 m long. The price would be, approximately 30 millions euros. While, the longer tunnel of 2.790 m would cost 10 millions euros more.

Traffic experts consider that the future tunnel would not only make the way from Ruma to Novi Sad shorter, but it would also make this section much safer.

The significance of Fruska gora tunnel is that Novi Sad and several other municipalities will in this way have a link with Western Serbia and Adriatic highway which would be shorter and faster. On the other hand, the future section would be in crossway to Belgrade-Zagreb highway, near Srem.

The President of Provincial Executive Council, Bojan Pajtic, announced last year a construction of the half-highway through Vojvodina which would connect Ruma and a border with Romania. This included construction of Fruska gora tunnel.

This highway, 165 km long, would merge two road corridors – Corridor 10 through Serbia and Corridor 3 through Romania. The half-highway would be passing from Temisvar direction, from Medja at Serbian-Romanian border, through the middle Banat near Zrenjanin, from where it would spread towards Novi Sad. From that point, the tunnel through Fruska gora would be exiting on Srem fields.

LONGITUDE

49 km would be the longitude of the road from Novi Sad city to “Nikola Tesla” airport in Surcin, if the tunnel through Fruska gora would be built.
