Reconstruction of state road from Kikinda to Nakovo in 2020 – Bicycle lane to be completed by August 2019

(Illustration) Serbia and Romania are finishing the project financed from EU funds in the amount of around EUR 1.8 million which aims to improve the road infrastructure. The construction of a bicycle lane in both directions from Kikinda to the Romanian border and the equipping of the border crossing Nakovo-Lunga on the Serbian side are in progress. These works are financed by the City of Kikinda with nearly EUR 480,000, and everything should be completed by August.
– In the past three years, there have been over 700,000 crossings on the Nakovo-Lunga border point. The European Union does not prevent soft borders and we make great use of it. After the completion of the first phase of the project, we will focus on the second phase, that is, the next project. The aim is for this border crossing to become operational 24 hours a day and open for trucks and buses. This would considerably improve the flow of traffic and the development of Kikinda, and it’s up to individuals and business people to use these favorable conditions – said Mayor of Kikinda Pavle Markov.
The executive director of the PE Roads of Serbia, Biljana Vuksanovic, announced that the rehabilitation of the state road from Kikinda to Nakovo was expected the next year.
The director of RCB Banat, Irena Zivkovic, said that this cross-border project aimed to improve the conditions of the traffic of people, goods and services in the border area, but also to equip and further develop the Nakovo-Lunga border crossing.
The project of the improvement of the connectedness of Banat is realized within the Interreg IPA programs, involving the Romanian Municipality of Jimbolia and the Serbian City of Kikinda, the Regional Center for the Economic Development of Banat and the PE Roads of Serbia.
