German company "EnBW" gave up construction of steam power plant in Kosovo

German company "EnBW" announced that it was not interested in construction of steam power plant in Kosovo any more, although it had applied for that project in association with US company WGI.

The Government of Kosovo has not officially received that information yet, but it is not going to announce new tender although "EnBW" is already the second bidder to give up the construction. German concern RWE withdrew the bid last month.

There are now only two consortiums interested in the competition for construction of steam power plant of 2,000 MW. One of them comprises Italian "Enel" and Greek "Sencap", a member of "Public Power" concern, while the other is made of Czech CEZ and US company AES.

The Government of Kosovo set the new conditions for construction of power plant one month ago. According to these new terms, the investors should have the works carried out in two phases. The initial tender announced in 2006 anticipated only one phase.
