Agreement signed for gas pipeline "Nabucco" - route 3,300 km long

Turkey and the countries of European Union signed the agreement today (July 13, 2009) for construction of gas pipeline "Nabucco" that will make Europe less dependent on Russian gas.

Prime ministers of Turkey, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary signed the agreement that allows gas pipeline "Nabucco", which will be built by private consortium, to go across their territories.

Iraq, Egypt and Syria announced that they were willing to provide gas for that gas pipeline, which is not going to make Russian deliveries of gas to Europe completely unnecessary.

Actually, Russian gas may be required for the gas pipeline with the capacity of 31 billion cubic meters to operate "at full steam".

"Nabucco" will be delivering gas directly from central Asia and the Near East to Europe. The route of the gas pipeline will be 3,300 km long.
