Torino-based automobile giant "Fiat" will offer the new version of production plan for Serbia within the next few weeks. According to the source close to the Ministry of Economy, which is the most concerned with the agreement, it is possible that "Fiat" offers annual production of 140,000 automobiles. That is when it will be specified if the class of automobiles will be "A" or "B".
The new offer of one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers is different from the offer in the first contract, which was spectacularly signed in September 2008, when the suggested annual production amounted to 240,000 automobiles. But the global economic crisis, which especially hit automobile industry, forced Italians to reduce the offer.
However, there are some good news from "Zastava": current monthly production of 2,000 automobiles will be increased to 4,000 units per month in September. That is how 20,000 "punto" vehicles will be produced this year, which is twice as much as in 2008.
- The agreement with "Fiat" is still one of the key projects for revival of our nature - the Ministry of Economy commented. - Its new investments would encourage some other foreigners to invest in Serbia. The investors from Russia, China, Germany and Austria have already expressed great interest, and we expect to receive new offers from France.
According to them, there are many reasons for optimism: the Dinar exchange rate is stable, national reserves have been increased (9 billion EUR), new saving accounts are opened in the banks in Serbia (over 5 billion EUR worth of saving deposits at the moment), internal and international solvency has been improved, and Serbia proves its seriousness by improving its international reputation.
