Fifty-six new cameras to help prevent toll collection avoidance on Belgrade-Nis highway in 2019

Fifty-six cameras will be installed on the Belgrade-Nis highway in 2019 in order to help prevent toll collection avoidance. Around 35,000 drivers avoid paying the road toll each year, according to Darko Savic, a representative of the PE Roads of Serbia, Blic writes.

– They exit the highway illegally, not through a toll booth, of course – Savic said and added that those vehicles passed through the fence, cut by either them or the residents.

According to him, this causes material damage, allows animals to enter the road and makes the state lose money.

– There are 35,000 such vehicles each year, which is not a lot, considering that 50 million vehicles pay the toll. We emphasize that our intention is to increase the payment rate from 99.92% to 100% – Savic said.

As he announced, the cameras will also record the license plate numbers of vehicles moving at over 250 km/h.

He added that a RDS-TMC radio system will be set up, informing drivers about the traffic on the highway, the toll booths, the border crossings, delays and weather conditions.
