Although the Electric Power Company of Serbia asked for and the Agency for
Energy approved of the increase in price of electricity by 8%, the Government
has postponed the decision about the price increase for the time being. According
to the words of the Minister of Energy and Mining, Petar Škundrić, that is a
temporary measure that is “in accordance with the Government’s stabilization measures”.
Škundrić added that the price would not be increased in May, but he could not specify whether and when the price would be changed.
- We will see when the conditions for revoking of that temporary measure will be created – said Škundrić.
The Minister said that the Government had introduced that measure after it had estimated the purchase power of citizens and the situation in the economy sector, and because it wanted to maintain the macroeconomic stability.
According to Škundrić, the postponement of the price increase is not going to have negative effect on functioning of the system.
EPS has recently asked the Agency for Energy for permission to increase the price of electricity by about 20%, but the Agency has agreed that the price should be increased by 8%.
