Both locks are out of use for a long time, so the reconstruction work that will put them in operation again is of great importance. Šebešfok lock drive will be motorized while Bezdan lock will keep the manual drive. Construction, mechanical and electrotechnical reparations will change the bad state these facilities are currently in and create conditions for their greater social significance.
Reconstruction will increase the flood protection level and enable ships to cross form Danube into Baja-Bezdan Canal, secure the full operation of the channel and provide the basis for further system developments. These activities will protect nature reserves and improve economy and tourism sectors, especially nautical tourism
Because of their cultural and historic significance these facilities are treated as protected sites so the reparations and reconstructions must be done to preserve the former look of the place.
In Serbia BABEKA project is financed with funds from the Public Water management Company Vode Vojvodine and through European Affairs Fund of AP Vojvodina. The construction is planned to be completed before the deadline, that is, by the end of 2019.
